I. Definition of Feminism- the equality and empowerment of women in society and the analysis of the social constructs of gender and sexuality.
II. Fariness for Females
A. An All Day Fair at McKeldin Mall
• An event to raise awareness about
a. equality for women
b. achievements of women
c. current struggles women face
B. Audience-
a. Target audience will be college students and adult women. Its targeting college students because they are at the age where they can make changes in society and work with different groups and organizations. Also, college students are the future of the country and need to be aware of social issues that effect themselves and future women. Adults will also be targeted because women need to be educated on health issues along with enhancing their knowledge of inequalities in their careers. Also many of the speakers that we set up usually have adult audiences due to certain topics and issues that are mature.
C. Morning Events
a. Opening begins at ten o’clock in the morning
b. Opening speaker will be Oprah Oprah Winfrey who will welcome everyone and give a talk about her personal struggles and achievements as a woman.
d. There will be multiple information/activist booths set up all round the mall
a. There will be one booth on women’s safety
b. Another information desk on women’s health, much will due with breast and ovarian cancer.
c. Final booth will deal with women in the workplace and how to get ahead
d. Each booth will be made up of organizations that specialize in these issues. They will hand out information pamphlets and ask for volunteers to help with their group’s future fundraisers and rally’s.
D. Afternoon Event
a. There will be an art auction for paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe. All of the proceeds for the paintings will go toward a scholarship for young women who are attending college. It is meant to help promote gender equality in education. Also some money will go to funds for breast and ovarian cancer.
E. Evening Events
a. Stand up comedy show by Ellen DeGeneres
b. Humorously tells about the political issues around women’s rights and social expectations compared to men’s.
F. Closing Performance:
a. Concert by Bread and Roses
G. Group Work
a. All group members participated in one way or another.
b. everyone took part in brainstorming for the event and coming up with individual definitions of feminism in order to incorporate everyone’s ideas.
c. A few girls made posters
d. Someone put the flyer together.
e. Everyone emailed ideas back and forth.
