I am considered a "subject in history" because I was one of approximately 80 students from my senior class to participate in a newly established internship program called "Senior Experience." This program was offered to all members of the senior class to partake in. It spanned over the last month of school, in which is typically known for having no work to complete, so no one even shows. In order to get accepted into the program, you had to fill out an application, get letters of recommendation from members of the faculty, write a short paper, as well as be well rounded in the academic and extra curricular activities. I got accepted into the program and had the opportunity to do an internship in a local hospital. Overall, the program was successful and has become an option for every senior class.

During my sophomore year of high school, a few of my friends’ older brothers had enlisted in the armed services, including the marines, army, and navy. Because the US was at war with Iraq many of their brothers were sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. Everyone was worried about their safety and all anyone could do was hope for the best. However, my friends and I realized that we should help out their family members by sending them care packages. We set up an organization at my school where people could donate various things such as soap, shampoo, and even home made pillows. We would collect the items and send them over seas. I would be considered a subject in history because this is a major war that my country is involved in and I tired to help out my friend’s family members and those who sever my country.
My junior year of High School I spent a great deal of time volentering at Sibly Memorial Hopsital in the Kidney Dialysis Unit. I was one of several teenagers who would help young kids sitting in dialysis for hours at a time with their HW and other activities. This experience was very changing and made me realize how lucky I really am to be healthy and alive. Overall, I believe that this makes me a subject in history b/c these kids will always remember the time and effort that I spent helping and simply talking with them.
In my junior year of high school my best friend started the first Amnesty International Club in my school. She also decided to host our school's first Darfur Gala. She wanted to have speakers to discuss the issue and other activities. I helped a great deal in this process, I helped her call a lot of speakers in search of one that would speak at our Gala. I also helped her get food for the guests. This makes me a subject in history because it was the first Gala held at our school and because our small school had an impact in some so horrible as that which was going on in Darfur. Hopefully our little event helped those in distress in Darfur
During 6th grade my family decided to help a Korean family from Korea get settled in Amierca. It was a newly wed couple and they had never been to America before. First the couple came to our home and we set up a room for them to get settled. My family frist helped them out by giving them jobs. It took about 3 years before the family could save enough money to start living on their own. During those three years my family and I helped them get use to the American life. Not only did they have to work and understand english, but they also had to get use to the culture. It was interesting to observe their transition from Korean to Korean-American. The family has two children now and live about 2 mins away from my house. It is nice to see another child being born in america but having parents who were originally from Korea. The couple Hasn't fully lost their Korean origins and I feel that is a good thing. Now they can pass on their culture understanding of Koreans while the children grow up in America.
